Peer Review
SciFormat Publishing uses a single-blind peer review model.
Single-blind peer review is a peer-review model where the reviewer's identity is kept anonymous, but the author's identity is known to the reviewer. This means that the reviewer(s) knows who the author(s) is, but the author(s) does not know who the reviewer is.
This is intended to prevent bias in the review process and ensure that the review is based solely on the merit of the work. The successful implementation of this model is attributed to the use of Open Monograph Press by the editorial team in managing the workflow.
Peer review process:
- The book manuscript is reviewed by the Editor to confirm that it meets the standards for the peer review process. Specifically, the Editor conducts an initial evaluation, such as a plagiarism check, and verifies that the manuscript adheres to the guidelines set by SciFormat Publishing. Manuscripts that do not adhere to these criteria are not subject to further peer review and are rejected.
- All book manuscripts undergo a peer-review process, thus, the Editor selects potential reviewers who are experts in the field and makes the decision to appoint them to review the manuscript.
- The reviewers independently evaluate the manuscript, providing feedback on its strengths and weaknesses. They also make one of the following recommendations to the Editor:
- Reject;
- Consider after Major Changes;
- Consider after Minor Changes;
- Publish Unaltered.
In the case of “Reject,” the corresponding author is provided with all the review reports and informed that the manuscript will not be considered for publication.
In the case of “Consider after Major Changes,” the corresponding author is informed that he must revise the book manuscript to incorporate the suggested changes made by the reviewers. This may involve collecting new data or making significant modifications to the text. The revised book manuscript will be evaluated by one or more of the original reviewers before the Editor reaches a new decision.
In the case of “Consider after Minor Changes,” the corresponding author is informed that he must revise the book manuscript to incorporate the minor changes suggested by the reviewers. Once the revisions are made, the Editor may recommend "Publish Unaltered".
In the case of “Publish Unaltered,” the book manuscript will go through a final review by the Editor to ensure compliance with SciFormat Publishing policies. The corresponding author will be informed that the manuscript has been accepted.
The peer review process in SciFormat Publishing is based on The Committee on Publication Ethics guidelines. More detailed information is provided on the Guidelines for Reviewers page.
